More details

Rolex Submariner 16610 black dial, aluminium bezel, full set, early 2000s production, calibre 3135

The 16610 is, in many ways, exactly what a Submariner should be.

This example is a K-serial, dating to circa 2001, and comes as a proper full set — outer and inner box, original punched papers, calendar card, swing tag, and seal. The kind of completeness that’s becoming increasingly difficult to find in this condition.

At Calibre Club, this is genuinely one of the standout Submariner references. It sits in that sweet spot where the watch still feels like a true tool watch — slim, balanced, and understated — but modern enough to be worn daily without a second thought.

Before the shift to ceramic bezels and the heavier case profiles that followed, the 16610 retains that classic Submariner silhouette. It wears closer to what many would consider the “correct” proportions — not oversized, not overbuilt — just right on the wrist. The later ceramic references, and now the current 41mm generation, have gradually moved away from this feel.

What makes the 16610 so appealing is that balance. It has the vintage character — aluminium bezel, lighter case, a more traditional presence — but without the compromises that come with older pieces. You still have a sapphire crystal, solid construction, and a watch you can genuinely wear every day, whether that’s in the city or in the water.

Condition-wise, this example presents very well. The case retains strong, clean lines, the bezel insert is sharp, and the dial and hands are clean with even lume. The bracelet remains tight for its age, which is always something we pay close attention to on these.

Inside is the Rolex calibre 3135 — one of Rolex’s most proven movements. Reliable, straightforward to service, and built to last, exactly as you’d expect.

For those looking for a Submariner that captures the original spirit of the model, but still fits seamlessly into modern use, the 16610 is difficult to look past.
