A Curious Piece of Hublot History
Most watches are designed to be sold.
This one wasn't.
The Hublot Service Watch was originally supplied to customers while their own watch was undergoing maintenance. Bearing the distinctive "SERVICE" dial and "NOT FOR SALE" engraving on the caseback, these watches were issued through Hublot's after-sales network and were never intended for retail sale.
Believed to date from the late 1990s to early 2000s, the watch represents a lesser-known chapter of Hublot's history, before the arrival of the Big Bang and long before the brand formally reintroduced the concept of a courtesy watch with the Atelier programme in 2012.
The design follows the original Hublot formula established by founder Carlo Crocco, combining a stainless steel case with a clean black dial and integrated strap design. Simple, functional and unmistakably Hublot.
What makes these watches interesting today is their provenance. They were not catalogue models, were never offered through traditional retail channels and were supplied exclusively to existing Hublot clients during the servicing process. As a result, they occupy a unique place within the brand's history and have developed a following among collectors who appreciate unusual non-catalogue pieces.
This example remains in exceptional New Old Stock condition and retains its original Hublot leather strap. The caseback is engraved "NOT FOR SALE", preserving one of the details that makes these watches instantly recognisable to those familiar with the story.
An unusual and often overlooked piece of Hublot history, offering a glimpse into an era of the brand rarely discussed today.
