Cartier Santos Carrée 2961 ghost dial, two-tone Santos steel gold, vintage Cartier Santos automatic

These smaller Cartier pieces are starting to come back into focus again — and for good reason. The proportions feel right, the design is timeless, and compared to where the market has gone elsewhere, they still sit in a place that feels relatively overlooked.

This example stands out.

Originally supplied by Harrods, Knightsbridge on 21st January 1986, and accompanied by its original stamped Cartier paperwork from Harrods, it’s the kind of watch that carries a bit more story than most. A proper London-supplied piece from the 1980s.

It’s the classic large Santos Carrée in steel and yellow gold, with the flat square case and integrated bracelet that define the model. At ~29mm, it wears exactly as a Santos should — compact on paper, but with enough presence on the wrist.

The dial is what really sets it apart.

Replaced by Cartier during its most recent service in March 2026, the “gun dial” (often referred to as ghost) gives the watch a much softer, more understated look compared to the traditional white Roman dial. It’s subtle, slightly faded in appearance, and works particularly well with the two-tone case.

Condition is honest and consistent with age. The case and bracelet retain good structure, with light wear throughout but nothing that detracts. The bracelet remains tight and very wearable, and the watch has clearly been cared for properly over time.

Following its recent Cartier service, everything is running exactly as it should. The watch also comes with the Cartier service pouch and cushion, a nice additional touch from its most recent visit to Cartier.
