More details
The Royal Oak ref. 14700SA was produced during a transitional period spanning the late 1980s and early 1990s, sitting between the earliest automatic Royal Oaks and the later mid-size references that followed. It is a reference increasingly appreciated by collectors for its proportions, slim profile, and closeness to the original Royal Oak design language.
At 36mm, the appeal lies in the balance. The case is notably slim, the bezel comparatively thin, and the dial opening generous for the size. On the wrist, it wears with a presence that feels closer to the original Royal Oak “Jumbo” than its dimensions might suggest. For this reason, collectors often refer to the 14700 informally as a “Mini-Jumbo” — not as an official designation, but as a way of describing its proportions rather than its size.
This example is configured in stainless steel with yellow gold across the bezel, crown, and bracelet centre links. Combined with a grey petite tapisserie dial and applied gold hour markers, the result is a distinctly period-correct Royal Oak that reflects how the model was worn and appreciated at the time, rather than how it has been positioned in more recent years.
Powered by an automatic movement, the 14700SA offers the design purity of early Royal Oak production with the practicality expected of a neo-vintage piece. It is a watch that tends to resonate with collectors who value proportion, restraint, and historical context over outright size or modern trends.

Condition
This Royal Oak is presented in very good condition for its age.
When acquired, the watch appeared to be in largely original condition, consistent with careful wear over several decades. It has since been professionally refurbished, resulting in a clean, sharp, and fresh overall appearance while retaining the correct proportions and character of the reference.
The dial remains well preserved, the case lines present nicely, and the bracelet wears well overall. The watch now presents far fresher than its age would suggest, without feeling over-restored.
⸻
Bracelet fit
The integrated bracelet is currently sized to fit a wrist of approximately 6.5 inches. Additional links are not present; however, extra links can be sourced upon request if required.
⸻
Additional notes
The caseback is engraved “Royal Oak” with a serial number present and consistent with period production. This example is offered as watch only, with no box or papers. An Audemars Piguet Extract from the Archives can be obtained by the buyer if absolute confirmation of production period and original configuration is desired.
